Situation
TISCO Mining Co. Ltd.’s Jianshan iron mine introduced 35 sets of BELAZ dumpers with hydraulic sumps of about 200 liters and carrying capacities of up to 130 tons. Using a conventional hydraulic oil, the dumpers experienced high operating temperatures averaging 100°C (212°F) during the summer, which caused unscheduled downtime to occur as a result of heating. In an effort to improve equipment productivity, the mine approached ExxonMobil for their expert service in identifying a lubricant solution that could help reduce operating temperatures.
Recommendation
ExxonMobil engineers conducted a lubricant analysis and recommended TISCO Mining Co. Ltd. switch to Mobil DTE 10 Excel™ 46 hydraulic oil for the hydraulic system of the dumpers. Formulated with high viscosity index base oils and an additive system that provides excellent frictional properties, Mobil DTE 10 Excel™ 46 is a high temperature oil that also provides outstanding oxidation and thermal stability in severe service hydraulic systems.
Result
After transitioning to Mobil DTE 10 Excel™ 46 hydraulic oil, the company reported that operating temperatures in the dumpers were reduced to 60°C (140°F). The switch to Mobil service has also helped reduce unscheduled downtime and increase mine output, generating a company-estimated savings of US $823,746.
Advancing productivity
By helping you enhance equipment life and reliability – which reduces maintenance costs and downtime – our expert services can help you achieve your safety, environmental care and productivity goals.
This is one of many examples where Mobil’s expert service which includes lubricant analysis has been successful in delivering effective lubricant solutions for the customer.
*This success story is based on the experience of a single customer. Actual results can vary depending upon the type of equipment used and its maintenance, operating conditions and environment, and any prior lubricant used.
