Expeditions west: Arctic expedition
“We faced the most extreme temperature conditions you can imagine; 100 degrees to -40 degrees below Fahrenheit (37.7 deg C to -40 deg C).”
When adventure driver and off-road racer Scott Brady led a one month, 14,484 kilometers expedition from the extreme heat of Arizona to the sub-zero chill of the Arctic Circle, he knew that maintaining the performance of his vehicle was paramount. How would the engine react to being taken from one extreme climate to another? Mobil 1™ knew their oil was up to the task and provided the product and technical support during the Arctic expedition.
“With those temperature extremes, we had to have premium oil that would deliver exceptional performance no matter what the conditions were or our engine would either burn up in the heat or freeze in the Arctic.” He chose Mobil 1 synthetic oil.
Along the way, Scott and his team-mates, Chris and Pasquale, camped along the Dempster Highway in Canada's Yukon Territory. The temperature fell 40 degrees below zero Fahrenheit (-40deg C). Everyone woke up the next morning cold, tired and with a few numb body parts, but when he went to turn the key on his truck-which had been turned off for six hours - it roared to life immediately, without valve train noise. After crossing the frozen Arctic Ocean to the Arctic Circle, the team doubled back to hot and sandy Arizona-all on one single fill of Mobil 1. “The idea of using other oil would be like driving on ice with bald tyres,” Brady said.
